Parliamentary Officer - Rev Graham K Blount.

Born in Glasgow, I caught at an early age the disease of supporting Clyde Football Club. I studied law at Glasgow University before training for the Church of Scotland ministry at St Andrews University.

Since 1976, I have been Parish Minister at Linthouse St Kenneth's (Glasgow), Bridge of Allan Chalmers (with Stirling University Chaplaincy), and Falkirk Old & St Modan's (where I shared a Joint Ministry with my wife).

I did academic research on the interface between theology and economics in relation to personal debt problems, and was Honorary Secretary of the Committee on Church and Nation for two years before being appointed the Kirk's first Scottish Parliamentary Officer in September 1998, with the remit from Action of Churches Together in Scotland of establishing the ecumenical Scottish Churches Parliamentary Office.

I am married to Rev Sheila Blount (Minister of Cupar St John's and Dairsie Parish Churches), with two daughters, Laura and Lindsay.

Research Officer - Hazel E C MacIver

As the newest (but not necessarily improved) model of SCPO’s Research Officer, I bring the much needed quality of being a highlander, specifically an islander – “little we complain though we suffer much” – to the office.

Having left Stornoway for Glasgow University where I spent four very enjoyable years ostensibly studying Politics, I decided to remain in the studying wilderness and made the big step of migrating to the east coast (the bitter cold east coast at that) to do the snappily entitled European Policy, Law and Management postgraduate diploma at The Robert Gordon University.  I then found myself doing a PhD there on how the Scottish Parliament has affected interest groups (I am the cure for all my friends’ insomnia), which has successfully kept me off the streets and out of full-time gainful employment until now.

However, my addiction (to studying) remains strong, as I’m going to study Forensic Medicine and Science at evening classes this year, mostly for the challenge it represents.  Before making a career of avoiding having a career, in school I devoted those impressive energies to steering clear of having to take maths and science.  And I also think that forensic medicine might be very useful knowledge to have should I ever have need to cover my tracks in the office!

So having gone from Stornoway to Glasgow to Aberdeen, I can now boast of being the only member of the SCPO staff to actually live in Edinburgh and also of being a member of the Free Church.  So to summarise: I’m from Lewis, spent years studying and I belong to the Free Church – I’m expecting the dinner invites to flood in so I can be the life and soul of your party!!

All invitations should be sent to: hazel@actsparl.org
