Scottish Parliament Elections 2011

Get Ready to Vote

10 Mar 2011

In May 2011, there were elections to select Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs).  The Scottish Churches Parliamentary Office prepared resources to enable church members to get information about key election issues; plan and run hustings events in their local communities; and feel equipped to make informed voting decisions on 5 May 2011.

Please use the links on the left to navigate through the articles and resources we have available.

Further election materials

In addition to the resources available on this website, SCPO also participated in the Churches Vote initiative, which was been set up to prepare churches for the Scottish Elections and create space for churches and church members to engage with the issues.  A shared website contained links to resources which have been developed by supporting churches, denominations and organisations.  This website, www.churchesvote.org, also included information about hustings which may have been organised in your area.

Church Leaders' Statement ahead of the Scottish Elections

Church Leaders and representatives of Christian organisations have come together ahead of the elections on Thursday 5 May to release a statement.  We have made the full statement available for download (see link on the left hand side); why not have it read out at your place of worship sometime before the election?

SCPO, Catholic Parliamentary Office, CARE, Christians Count and the Evangelical Alliance have produced a website, www.churchesvote.org which is intended to help Christians be informed about voting; explore the issues; find out what the parties are saying; and find out how to question candidates.  Churches Vote also includes a Hustings finder.  You can also register your hustings on this website.
