The Scottish Executive
with their responsibilities

First Minister and Head of the Scottish Executive: Henry McLeish; responsible, with the Deputy First Minister, for the development, implementation and presentation of Scottish Executive policies.

Deputy First Minister and Minister for Justice: Jim Wallace, MP; responsible, with the First Minister, for the development, implementation and presentation of Scottish Executive policies; responsible for Home Affairs, including civil law and criminal justice, criminal justice social work services, police, fire prisons and courts, law reform, land reform policy and freedom of information.
Deputy Minister for Justice: Iain Gray; particular responsibility for land reform and co-ordination of Executive policy in relation to drugs.

Minister for Education, Europe and External Affairs: Jack McConnell; responsible for pre-school and school education, children and young people; supports the First Minister and Deputy First Minister in external relations, especially development and implementation of links with Europe.
Deputy Minister for Education, Europe and External Affairs: Nicol Stephen

Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning: Wendy Alexander; responsible for the economy, business and industry including tourism, trade and inward investment, further and higher education, and the delivery of the New Deal
Deputy Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning and Gaelic: Alasdair Morrison; responsibility for Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the University of the Highlands and Islands, tourism and Gaelic.

Minister for Environment, Sport and Culture: Sam Galbraith; responsible for the environment, water, natural and built heritage, sustainable development, land-use planning, sport, culture and the arts, and lottery funding.
Deputy Minister for Sport and Culture: Allan Wilson; responsible for sport, culture and the arts, the built heritage and lottery funding.

Minister for Finance and Local Government: Angus Mackay; responsible for the Scottish Budget, European Structural Funds, local government (including finance), 21st Century Government encompassing e-government, Modernising Government and Civil Service Reform. Supports the First Minister and Deputy First Minister in oversight of the Executive's central functions.
Deputy Minister for Finance and Local Government: Peter Peacock

Minister for Health and Community Care: Susan Deacon
Deputy Minister for Health and Community Care: Malcolm Chisholm

Minister for Parliament: Tom McCabe; responsible for the management of Executive business in the Parliament; supports the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister in the co-ordination of Executive policy, management of cross-cutting priorities and overseeing strategic communications.
Deputy Minister for Parliament: Tavish Scott; particular responsibility for the Parliamentary handling of the legislative programme and management of cross-cutting priorities; Liberal Democrat Business Manager.

Minister for Rural Development: Ross Finnie; responsible for rural development including agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
Deputy Minister for Rural Affairs: Rhona Brankin

Minister for Social Justice: Jackie Baillie; responsible for social inclusion and housing, equality issues and the voluntary sector.
Deputy Minister for Social Justice: Margaret Curran

Minister for Transport: Sarah Boyack

Lord Advocate: Colin Boyd, QC
Solicitor General: Neil Davidson, QC
