Frequently Asked Questions

What has politics and the Scottish Parliament got to do with the Churches?

The faith of the churches gives them a passionate commitment to the wellbeing of the nation. Putting that into practice takes many forms both locally and nationally, and our faith doesn't only relate to a "religious agenda" but to practical caring. Our experience, vision and values are what we want to contribute to the decision-making process that is shaping communities in Scotland.

How can you speak for all these different churches and groups?

The task of the SCPO is to enable the voices of the churches to be heard. Sometimes, the churches are of one mind and work together and speak out together; but there are times when there will be a range of voices to be heard.

What about other religions?

The SCPO is in touch with other faith communities in Scotland; some receive our briefings and sometimes share in meetings, but will speak for themselves. Sometimes we will act together in mutual support.
